WHAT TO EXPECT
Your First Brazilian
Whether this is your first brazilian ever or your first brazilian with me, I know how intimidating it can be. Here’s what you can expect.
Check in - head to suite 11 by sticking to the right wing of the Sola Salon; my unit is on the left hand side of that hallway. If the door is open, come on in! If the door is closed I am in service, so please do not knock. Have a seat on one of the couches in the hallway and I’ll be out for you shortly!
Prep - I’ll tell you how to undress and then step out for 2-3 minutes to give you some privacy - please use this time to cleanse yourself front and backside with the provided sanitary wipe.
Time to wax! This is so much easier than you think. The service only takes about 20 minutes and in that time I’ll educate you about hair growth, what to expect, proper aftercare, and the do’s and don'ts of waxing. It’ll be over before you know it and you’ll be surprised at how painless it really is.
Cleanup - The wax is over! At this point I’ll tweeze any remaining hairs. This is also when any add on services will be performed. Once the tweezing is completed, you’ll get dressed and we’ll get you checked out!
Checkout - at this point it’s always a good idea to book your next appointment. I’ve found it’s easy to forget about your next wax if it isn’t pre-booked, and the longer you wait the more painful your wax will be.
HOW TO PREPARE
Whether this is your first Brazilian wax or your tenth, preparation is important and the following steps can be taken to minimize discomfort:
Hydration: water intake is so important! I recommend increasing your water intake significantly starting the evening before your appointment. A hydrated hair follicle is a looser hair follicle, meaning your hair will slide out with minimal resistance and result in a buttery-smooth wax.
Caffeine: Save it for after your wax. Caffeine increases blood flow and constricts your hair follicle, making it tighter. This means your skin is essentially holding onto that hair extra-tight, therefore resulting in a more painful wax. The increased blood flow means increased sensitivity. Save your drink for after!
Exfoliate: Buff away those dead skin cells. You can do this the evening before or the morning of your appointment. No need to go crazy! A gentle exfoliation with an exfoliating glove will do; we just want to slough off that dead skin for a cleaner, smoother wax.
Your menstrual cycle & pregnancy: Yes, you can get waxed on your period and and during pregnancy! This is super common. Just be sure to wear a tampon or menstrual cup during the service while on your period. However, being waxed while on your period or during pregnancy can make it more painful due to the hormonal changes. In these instances, I highly recommend increasing your water intake to help reduce that sensitivity.

AFTERCARE
After your wax you will be given an aftercare card which will reiterate the following:
No hot showers, steam, saunas, sex, or working out for the first 24 hours after your wax. These activities increase sweat production and cause friction which can irritate the newly-empty follicles and lead to redness, rashiness, or bumps.
Do not exfoliate for 3 days after your service. Waxing in itself provides mild to moderate exfoliation. Give your skin a chance to recover before you exfoliate it yourself at home.
Avoid touching the area. Your follicles are wide open and sensitive, and we don’t want bacteria to be introduced into these follicles. Keep the area as clean as possible to avoid ingrown hairs and irritation.
Cotton underwear and loose clothing is ideal. Give the area time to breathe, especially for the first 24-28 hours.
It is normal for you to feel a bit tender or sensitive in the area after being waxed. Your skin may also be a bit pink. This shouldn’t last long and should resolve itself.
Please exfoliate and moisturize at home when appropriate to do so. These 2 steps are so incredibly important for the health of your skin and for avoiding ingrown hairs. You can use a body scrub or a set of exfoliating mitts to gently scrub the area while in the shower. You should be doing this at least 2-3 times per week. After you shower, you can apply an ingrown prevention serum and seal it all in with a moisturizer. These steps should only add at most an additional 1-2 minutes to your shower routine.
Book your next appointment! Wax consistently. For best results, keeping up with your waxing every 4-6 weeks makes for a smoother, easier service.
Specialized Lily & Dove treatments: If you find that ingrowns are becoming a problem for you (unfortunately some of us are more prone than others) consider adding on a specialized treatment to your next service. Ingrown extraction removes any of the ingrown hairs that can be safely removed from the skin. High frequency kills ingrown causing bacteria, reduces inflammation and aids in detoxification.
